Bear Like Me CoverBear Like Me 2003 Edition
Bear Like Me (2003, 2011) – Haworth Press, Bear Bones Books
Fired from his job at Phag Magazine, Peter Mallory has to find a way to make a living…and get revenge! When his best friend suggests writing a book about the bear community—and using his new ursine look to go undercover at Phag—Peter is soon letting his body hair grow and practicing the fine art of flannel couture. When Peter’s sabotage campaign works only too well, he starts to run the risk of discovery. With an envious fellow bear set to unmask Peter as a fraud, and a relationship with an intriguing bear on the line, things are about to get very hairy!

NOTE: Currently out of print, but copies are available. This is satire, not fantasy. It’s cozy enough, though. There was an audiobook, but Audible pulled it once the book went out of print.

Short Stories

“Mail-Order Husband” (2024) – Valentine’s Day 2024 (Wyngraf)

“Forbidden” (2021) – MetaStellar
Don’t go in the forest. Don’t open your eyes after sunset. And don’t look behind the cellar door…. if you know what’s good for you. (Trigger Warnings: Mental/emotional abuse, kidnapping)

Lavender Tavern logo
The Lavender Tavern (2021) – A collection of queer fairy tales written by Jonathan Cohen and narrated by various talent in Faustian Nonsense.
What is the Lavender Tavern? A place where folks of all kinds can come together to get in out of the cold, share a drink, and tell each other stories. Stories are the currency of the traveler, and there’s nothing better on a snowy night than hearing a fairytale you might remember hearing from your parents at bedtime…or a fable told around a crackling campfire…or a half-remembered waking dream.
Who runs the Lavender Tavern? You’ll hear his voice at the beginning and end of every fairytale. He’s got his own story to tell, and if you’re lucky enough, he’ll invite you to go behind the bar counter, sit down with a cup of hot cocoa, and tell you what’s on his mind.
Where is the Lavender Tavern? If you go far enough in one direction, past the point where you would normally stop, and keep going…sooner or later you’ll see the lamp in the window. Don’t stop. Don’t let the sleet and the wind and the snow sinking beneath your feet stop you. Just a few steps more…you’re almost there.
