Early Reviews of Talio’s Codex

Posted on July 19, 2024July 19, 2024 by jalexandercohen

Here are some excerpts from reviews for Talio’s Codex:

“Talio’s Codex was a first for me – a legal fantasy. That is, a legal thriller set in a fantasy world… Talio Rosso has an unexpected chance at redemption – if he can bring himself to defend an Incarnite named Pazli – a member of a strange new sect who keep themselves constantly covered in cloaks and show only their hands, and who – unlike most Nuciferians who worship the water goddess Felle, instead follow the god of fire, Sif… A well-written, fast-paced legal fantasy thriller with unexpected twists and turns that passes one of my most important tests for a great story – it’s unlike anything I have ever read before. Highly recommended.”

“This is promoted as a legal thriller. The plot involves a very slow burn romance between two lawyers set against a background of an alien legal system and a culture clash between two alien religions.

The world building is excellent as is all the detail about  justice and the attempt to subvert it. The characters are well developed and sympathetically presented. I loved the way the reader was thrown into a totally different world but guided effortlessly through its idiosyncrasies.

Meanwhile, there were plenty of comparisons to be drawn with our own systems and our prejudices, a theme which always makes sci-fi and fantasy more interesting. The story developed into a nail-biting thriller and I was at one point convinced it would end in tragedy but the book concluded with happiness, at least for now.

If you like exciting legal cases and appreciate fantasy worlds, this is for you. Highly recommended.”
